Structure (with floor plan)- The Free Berlin University- Candilis Josic Woods (featuring Foster+Partner)
The first phase of the free university was completed in 1973. The structure of the buildings of this phase were concrete-encased steel columns, I-section steel beams and prefabricated reinforced concrete slabs. In 1997, Phase 2 began when the Architects Foster and Partner won a competition to create the library which became the focal point of the entire University. The structure of this new library is a tubular steel frame with a radial geometry.
