Program - Andrew Melville Hall, James Stirling (1967)

The program of the Andrew Melville hall is that the two wings set at an acute angle were student dormitories that step down the tips from a pivotal core. Entry level to the building consist of a path centrally located between the two wings, stepping up the slope to a glazed entry.

Another factor worth noting is that there are no decorative elements. Balanced combination of old and new. The newly constructed bridge that is next to the old both physically and metaphorically represents Scarpa trying to "bridge" the history and the new together. "Visual Logic" is what Scarpa called of the building's different parts, because of its constant sense of fusion between the old and the new. For example, the two new elements Scarpa inserted into the old facade: a gateway for boats, made of a highly textured woven iron within the existing heavy masonry wall.
