Aalto used Wood throughout the interior on furniture and shelves, and brick and steel are used along the exterior. Windows along the second floor have built-in vertical panels to act as shading devices.

Another factor worth noting is that there are no decorative elements. Balanced combination of old and new. The newly constructed bridge that is next to the old both physically and metaphorically represents Scarpa trying to "bridge" the history and the new together. "Visual Logic" is what Scarpa called of the building's different parts, because of its constant sense of fusion between the old and the new. For example, the two new elements Scarpa inserted into the old facade: a gateway for boats, made of a highly textured woven iron within the existing heavy masonry wall.
