Material - Alison and Peter Smithson, Robin Hood Gardens 1972

The Robin Hood Gardens was made out of pre-cast concrete panels. They believed in designing their building economically and using materials that are common within the area. They Jut out these panels to mimic the balconies movement outwards towards the courtyard. These also provide a form of shading for the apartments. The pre-cast concrete that juts out represents an I-beam look. This creates an industrial look to the building and portrays a factory for living in.
