Isaiah & Jaredd Bagsvaerd Church

1. Structure
Typical church structure system, uses wood framing for the main space of the nave, and bearing walls for the surrounding aisles and circulation spaces.

2. Spacial order
The chapel acts as a central space for the surrounding programmatic and circulation spaces. The collection of rooms and courtyards have a fluent motion of connecting with each other. This rectangular perimeter that Utzon has created, is meant for visitors to essentially interact with the nave.

3. Program
The form created has not only created movement through spaces but the individual elements that make up space. The path traveled to to the destination has moved its way up the hierarchy, and becomes the most important programmatic element.

4. System
The surface of the ceilings, which is at its lowest above the entry, vaults the skyward towards the altar. The system of curved ceilings has altered the intention of a triple height space. The relationship between structure and ceiling has inverted the typical hierarchy.

5. Materials (tectonics)
The materials in which Utzon used are similar for the exterior and interior of the structure, but are different in effect. The dark exterior contradicts the well lit spaces on the interior.

6. Detail - Structure
Utzon creates five bays in which are meant to establish these different zones in order delineate the organization around the courtyard. The bays functionality purpose are that so together they stand and represent as a unified rectangular volume.

7. Detail - Material
Clad, concrete, white glazed tiles and glass. These different use of material help create a blurred transitioning border between nature and the interior of the structure.

8. Detail - Context
"conceives daylight as a function of architecture"

9. Modernist Intentions
The natural light enters through the skylight located between the two upper most folds of the curves.
